Cornish Pasty makers raise £14,500 to help tackle food poverty in the county!

Thank you to everyone who bought a pasty from us during Cornish Pasty Week earlier this year - the 5p donation per pasty contributed towards an amazing £14,500 raised for Devon & Cornwall Food Action! Read the official release from The Cornish Pasty Association below:

The Cornish Pasty community has shown how good it can be to work together for a collective purpose by raising £14,500 for local food redistribution charity, Devon & Cornwall Food Action.

During Cornish Pasty Week 2023, makers and sellers of genuine Cornish pasties were invited to pledge either a specific amount of money from every Cornish pasty sold, or a lump sum of their choice, to the Cornish Pasty Community Fund.

The fund is a new initiative of the Cornish Pasty Association, created to signal the return of Cornish Pasty Week after a two year break.

The money raised through the fund has allowed Devon & Cornwall Food Action to purchase an additional van that will specifically service Cornwall and thereby help more families in need.

The charity receives up to 15 tons of donated products a week, including fresh, frozen and packaged food along with household products. The charity's core objective is to redistribute food that would otherwise have gone to waste by making it affordable for those experiencing food poverty in Cornwall & Devon.

The Cornish Pasty Association’s Chairman Jason Jobling said:

“We are overwhelmed by the support this initiative received from the Cornish pasty community in its first year.  For hundreds of years the Cornish pasty has been an inherent part of our culture here in Cornwall. It seemed appropriate, with so many people facing enormous challenges right now, that we should get together to help provide meals for families in need.”

Alan Dunne, Chairman of Devon and Cornwall Food Action added, “It has been amazing to be the first recipient of the Cornish Pasty Community Fund and we can’t tell you how grateful we are for the money raised through this great idea.

“This donation has enabled us to purchase an additional food delivery van which ultimately means that we will be able to reach even more families facing food poverty in Cornwall.”

The following businesses contributed to the Cornish Pasty community Fund to make this possible:

Phat Pasty, West Cornwall Pasty Co, Warrens, Ginsters, The Cornwall Bakery, Cornish Premier Pasties, Prima Bakeries, Rowes, South Coast Baker, Berrymans, The Pasty House, The Cornish Pasty Store, Cornwall Airport, St Dominick Community Shop, Country House, The Great Cornish Food Store, Sanders and Proper Cornish.
